Successful master theses defenses
Jenny Schmid and Paul Stehberger both successfully defended their master thesis in September and October 2025. In her thesis, Jenny Schmid focused on analyzing high-frequency biosignals from intensive care unit patients and developing methods to remove artifacts from the data. Her thesis was a collaboration between the Interface Group and the Neurocritical Care Unit of the University Hospital Zurich, co-supervised by Prof. Vartan Kurtcuoglu and Prof. Emanuela Keller. With his medical background, Paul Stehberger is interested in improving technical interfaces for clinical staff. In his thesis and using a user-centered approach, he designed and implemented a graphical user interface for the visualization of burst suppression patterns in EEG data streams. Burst-suppression is a therapeutic method used in neurocritical care unit patients with certain diseases such as refractory status epilepticus in which patients suffer from continuous recurring seizures. We warmly congratulate both of them on their successful defense 🎉.
